Hoppers Crossing Under 15C player Jakob Wojcik had the game most cricketers dream about over the previous two Saturdays against Werribee Centrals at Cambridge Reserve. On the first Saturday Jakob stared with the ball, claiming impressive figures of 5/19 off 7 over’s, helping his side dismiss Centrals for 128.
On Saturday his efforts were even more rewarding. After retiring on reaching 50, Jakob returned to the crease at the fall off the ninth wicket to add another 100 runs to his tally to finish the allotted over’s on 150 not out.
In support of Jakob at the other end for the ninth wicket stand was Jake Robinson.
The club is endeavouring to scour through junior records to establish if this is a club junior record. Under 15C coach John McNamara was speechless after his young charge destroyed the Centrals attack. “Jakob scored 120 of his 150 in boundaries – he just absolutely smashed their bowlers around. It was undoubtedly the best junior batting performance I have had the pleasure of seeing,” McNamara said.
“Jakob should be very proud of his game, he had a dream match. Without doubt his performance will see him promoted up the grades, so I wish him every success as he continues on this season, he will be a big loss to our side for sure,” his coach said.
Local media will undoubtedly be chasing Jakob’s story in coming days, from a club perspective, well done young man – enjoy the moment.
